The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Prof Emmanuel Osodeke has drawn the ire of many Nigerians for describing state universities who are calling off the 6-months long industrial action quacks.
According to Dr Dípò Awójídé, a Business Strategist & Career Coach tweeting via his verified @OgbeniDipo handle, he described the statement credited to the ASUU President as shameful.
“ASUU President called some universities quacks. He clearly doesn’t know the meaning of quack. It is shameful it has come to this” he tweeted.
Similarly, popular journalist, Zara Onyinye described Osodeke’s actions as very disastrous while calling for his sack.
“An entire ASUU President candidly bad-mouthing some Universities because they refuse to not engage their industrial action.
If ASUU has guilt and shame, this man should be withdrawn from being their president instantly. He retains that Association in the mud so far!” she wrote.
On his part, Abdulrahman Raji stated that “You can imagine how the lecturers of the state universities are feeling now after the spend six months in a solidarity strike. The ASUU chairman is indeed a very small brain person”.
For Abdulmumin Babatunde; “This man just crowned the worst ASUU president so far in Nigeria” he wrote.
It would be recalled that Osodeke had labelled state universities that have resumed lectures nationwide as quacks.
Speaking on universities that have called off strikes such as Kwara State University, Lagos State University (LASU), Osun State University, Ekiti State University and others, he said:
“When you are providing data, look at the background. Kwara State University is not a member of ASUU, Osun State University was suspended for its behaviour, you can check, LASU you mentioned, we are in court with LASU because they sacked all our executives five years ago so they are not part of this struggle and Ekiti State University’s government has the right to say we have reopened just as it has happened in Gombe State University, Yobe and Kaduna State University.
“So, don’t cite those examples as they are irrelevant. Talk about the issue, is the University of Ibadan on strike? Is the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) on strike? Is Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) on strike? Is Bayero University Kano (BUK) on strike? is Maiduguri University on strike and the University of Lagos on strike? Let’s talk about real universities, not those quacks.”
Further reechoing his stance when asked, the ASUU president said, “Yes, they are quacks, go and check” he retorted.
