Nigerian doctor dies of COVID-19 in LUTH

A practising Nigerian medical doctor, Chugbo Emeka on Wednesday died of coronavirus-related complications after treating an infected patient in his private hospital in Lagos.

Dr. Chugbo Emeka, who died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, was admitted at the hospital on Monday, after contracting the disease from a coronavirus patient he was treating at his private hospital.

Confirming the development, the Chief Medical Director, LUTH, Professor Chris Bode, said the doctor was rushed to the facility after he showed severe signs of COVID-19.

The CMD said the doctor was brought in late, hence there was little that can be done to save his life.

He was a staff in LUTH years back before he went to join the private sector. “We learned he had COVID-19 patients in his facility that he was treating.

It was gathered that the late medical doctor was an Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist who died at the age of 60 years.
