A concerned Nigerian and an All Progressives Congress chieftain, Feyisetan Akeeb Kareem, has urged Nigerians to imbibe action that can foster unity amongst Nigerians while shunning action that can further divide the country.
This was contained in an email sent to The Nigerian Xpress last week. According to him, “The fastest way we Nigerians can save, change and make Nigeria great is for every one of us; leaders and followers to practise and promote politics of nationalism, patriotism, unity, service to humanity and religious tolerance, principle, conscience, morality and humanity, as well as see that we condemn politics of ethnicity, tribalism, and religious fanaticism because despite our diverse ethnic groups we are one people, one nation, one destiny,” he wrote.
Writing further, he said he had observed that in some situations, Nigerians come together under one umbrella but he wants Nigerians to always stay as one irrespective of the situation.

“I have observed that at work, school, church, mosque and even in sports/entertainment and the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, we are one but once politics is mentioned, every Nigerian becomes ethnic, tribal and religious fanatic, both at local government, state and national levels. The time has come for us to see ourselves as one ethnic entity called Nigeria.
We should also demand that government provides us with the basic necessities of life, which are shelter, children’s education, potable water, good and adequate food, health care, good roads, employment and a decent wage, good public transportation, security of lives and property, electricity and reasonable comfort.
Also, we should write petitions to confront bad governance, corruption, human rights abuses to relevant agencies.
Kareem concluded by saying that Nigeria would only be great again if each citizen puts the interest of Nigeria at heart.
“Nigeria will be up and doing only when citizens like you and me, wake up and think accurately in carrying out our activities in the interest of Nigeria. The day we Nigerians cease to see everything in terms of north vs south, Muslims vs Christians, politicians would have lost their hold over us for good,” he wrote.
