Nigeria to host Africa Rope Skipping workshop

As part of efforts to popularise the game of jump rope/rope skipping in the continent, the Nigeria Rope Skipping Federation has announced plans to host a continental training workshop to enable athletes understand new skills, gimmicks and styles of the sports.

According to a statement by the Federation signed by it’s Secretary General, Olusesan Olukoya, the workshop slated for the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Hall, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos will hold from Thursday, April 18- Saturday April, 20, 2019.

The statement further stated that participants would come from such countries as Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, South Africa and neighbouring West African countries while the trainers who have all obtained their visas will be coming from the United States of America and South Africa.

Olukoya announced that apart from the foreign guests expected at the workshop about 1,000 school kids/students will be trained as new entrants to the sport and the educational opportunity will also be extended to over 200 teachers who will be instructed on the techniques of rope skipping so as to ensure that those in the sport will have all the necessary tools to work with as they commence the teaching of the sports to as many children and families in not only schools but communities as well.

He stated that although the workshop will hold during the Easter holiday, both foreign and home based associates have expressed willingness to participate in the timely program even as he announced that about 10,000 ropes would be needed to commence training in 10 Nigerian states after the workshop at the rate of 1,000 ropes per state considering public and private schools in those states.
