The National President of Nigerian Scrabble Federation, Alhaji Sulaiman Gora, has identified Nigeria as the Number one scrabble-playing nation in the world.
He said this, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during the just-concluded Scrabble Open National Scrabble Competition 2019 held at Safari Recreation Club, Owerri.
Alhaji Gora, represented at the event by Dr. Sunmola Kayode, commended the Safari Recreation Club for offering its facilities for use for the event which, he said, has gone a long way in encouraging the Scrabble Competition.
He said that Scrabble game has come to stay in the country, while he thanked the players from across the country who participated in the competition.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Imo State Sports Commission, Chief Fan Ndubuoke, thanked the organisers for extending invitation to the Commission.

He said that since assumption of office, he had actually attended every sports event in the state describing it as the best way not only to encourage them, but to tap experience and ideas.
Ndubuoke who insisted that he was not a politician and has not come to the Commission to play politics, added that he has come to the event to actually find out what could be done to move the Scrabble forward.
He used the event to remind them of the ongoing registration of athletes for the up-coming sports festival in the state, while urging them to identify with the Commission by making sure they registar their athletes for the festival.
He assured the assistance of the Commission to encourage the promotion of Scrabble in the state, reminding them that the Governor Emeka Ihedioha has proven that he is interested in sports in line with the rebuilding Imo agenda in the state
Welcoming the guests to the event, Chairman of Imo State Scrabble Federation, Chief Ifeanyi Nwokocha Nwobi, said that Scrabble has come a long way, but regretted that it was difficult to start Scrabble game in the state.
He pleaded with the chairman of the sports Commission to give attention to Scrabble in the state which he described as a national game, while appealing to him to use his good offices to encourage the players who had made names through Scrabble game in the state.
