Nigeria French Language Village loses ex-DG

The Management of The French Language Village, Badagry, Lagos State, has announced the passing on of the village’s former Director-General, Prof. Samuel Olabanji Aje.

The sad news was contained in a statement signed by Mrs Sessi Fagbeji- Agemo of the Information and Protocol Office on behalf of the Governing-Council, Staff and Students of the Nigeria French Language Village. The statement read, (We) “received, with great shock and deep sense of grief, the news of the demise of (the institution’s) former Director-General, Professor Samuel Olabanji Aje. He was a Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Jos prior to his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria French Language Village.  He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Inter-University Centre for French Studies in 2003, and he served for a period of 10 years.

“Professor Aje will be remembered for his visionary leadership, the numerous innovations, giant developmental strides and landmark achievements he made while at the helm of affairs at the Nigeria French Language Village.

“He will be greatly missed. Until his demise, he was the Vice-Chancellor, Achievers University, Òwò, Ondo State.

The Nigeria French Language Village Community commiserates with his family and the academic community on this great and irreparable loss. We pray that the Lord in His infinite mercy will comfort and give the entire Aje family the fortitude to bear the loss.

“May the gentle soul of Professor Aje rest in perfect peace.

Details of burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
