NGO advocates humanitarian services for less privileged.

...to build boreholes for communities

From Priscilla Ofunre, Ado-Ekiti
A Non Governmental Organization, (NGO), Rotary Club, Ado-Ekiti chapter, has called for humanitarian services for the less privileged from the well-to-do in our societies, stressing that government alone cannot do it.
The organization said assisting the have-nots in the society will go a long way in putting smiles on their faces and giving hope to the hopeless.
The call was made during the investiture ceremony of Rotn Prof. Sulaiman Olanrewaju Adebayo as the 37th President of the Ado-Ekiti chapter of the organization.
Adebayo said the NGO whose main  objective is to render humanitarian services to communities, appealed to well-meaning individuals to reach out to the needy and give them a sense of belonging.
” My intention as the new president with the support of my board members is to connect the world, and one of the ways, is connecting with our communities, by collecting from those who have and giving to those who don’t have.
“We will continue to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor; by building community projects, putting smiles on the faces of motherless babies, so that they can look into the future with hope by ministering to their needs, with Erelu Adebayo Motherless Home, Iyin-Ekiti as our contact point.
“We are also looking into the lives of prisoners. They have been disconnected from the world. The attitude of people towards them even after their release is worse off. We will connect with them by providing for their needs. I will be representing the society and if you are kind to them they will have hope that when they come back to the society, the society will accept them.
“We also wish to counsel our children/wards, pupils and students in primary, secondary schools and higher institutions of learning, as one of the problems the world at large is facing today, especially, Nigeria, is the problem of mental health and one of the symptoms is suicide, ranging from suicide ideation, suicide intentions and  suicide itself. It is very rampant now and has become an epidemic. We will advice them against suicidal thoughts  or acts”.
Adebayo also said community intervention programmes being part of Rotary’s objectives will also provide services in this regard.
“We intend to sink two boreholes with pumping machines and overhead tanks at Odo, a community between Ado-Ekiti and Ilawe-Ekiti to enable the only Primary Health Centre in the community make health care services available to all and sundry in the community.
