The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) has condemned the recent terrorists’ abduction of passengers at the railway station in Edo State.
National Spokesperson of the NDC, Mudiaga Ogboru, in a statement issued by the NDC says that, “We would like to use this opportunity to firstly convey our profound regards and best wishes to you all this new year.
“It is nonetheless unfortunate that our first public statement is coming on the heels of a terrorist attack on innocent travelers in Igueben, Edo State, that has left many injured and over thirty others kidnapped. The NDC strongly condemns this wanton attack on the people of the Niger Delta as one too many.

“It’ll be recalled that the same styled terrorist attack that was successfully executed in Igueben on Saturday 7th January was also attempted unsuccessfully at the Abraka train station in Delta State on 8th July 2022 by the same invasive terrorists masquerading as herdsmen. We also recall attacks on communities in Rivers, Bayelsa, and Cross River states in the last months of 2022 which left scores dead and many others kidnapped.
The frequency of these attacks call for serious concern, and the NDC is alarmed by the fact that despite numerous calls from the NDC and other well-meaning groups and individuals from the region, the governors of the region are yet to establish a regional security outfit as proof of their commitment to securing the lives and properties of our people.
“This reluctance to take action despite the persistent outcry, and in the midst of credible reports of unfamiliar armed persons lurking in our forest reserves, whose activities are mostly reported to be hostile, is becoming untenable and unacceptable.
“While we commiserate with the injured and the families of those kidnapped, we call on the state governors of the Niger Delta region to as a matter of urgency work towards ensuring the release of those kidnapped, and to quickly put in place mechanisms to help protect the lives and properties of Niger Deltans from further attacks before it is too late.”
