Founder and Initiator of the National Task Force on the Prohibition of Illegal Importation/Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition and Light Weapons (NATFORCE), Dr. Baba Mohammed, has been praised for his for his thoughtfulness to seek legislative approval for the organisation from the National Assembly.
Giving the commendation at a media interaction, in Abuja, was a retired Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Corps and top stakeholder with the organisation, Alhaji Aminu Kofar Soro, who explained reasons for seeking legislative teeth for the organization’s operations in the country, saying, “it would make the agency a legal security outfit to operate.”
For the agency to work and work well, Soro reasoned, it needed the legal rule and regulation as legal teeth to bark and bite properly,” disclosing that, “against that background, “the current Director-General of NATFORCE, Dr. Baba Mohammed has commenced efforts towards ensuring that it gets these legal teeth.”
He disclosed that, a Bill towards that effect has been forwarded to the National Assembly, (Senate and the House of Representatives),” disclosing that, “the Bill has passed the first and the second reading and it is hoped that it would eventually pass the third and last stage to facilitate endorsement.”

And since all the Principal Officers are also unanimously in support of the decision to approach the National Assembly, the security expert enthused that, positive result is expected from the Legislative Houses, “because Nigerians can’t wait to hear a positive response from the Houses empowered to make laws for the good of the good people of Nigeria.”
He informed that NATFORCE was also collaborating with other sister agencies in other countries of West Africa so as to be able to have data from those countries to ensure that, before the carriers of illegal arms enter town, “we should be proactive to stop the influx at the borders before they proceed towards the hinterland.”
Soro further stated that NATFORCE’s main objective is to assist President Muhammadu Buhari to fight all forms of security challenges and to help in his desire to make jobs available to the teeming youth of Nigeria, asserting that, “the benefits accruable to the country from the organisation are very significant and indeed enormous.”
He was delighted that, the NATFORCE boss, Baba Mohammed was duly elected at the general conference of the NATFORCE. “All the Directors came together on 23rd of January, 2021. They were unanimous about his election. He had 25 out of 28 votes. And all decided that, yes, he is the right person that can provide the required leadership for the organisation for the next five years. And thereafter, if he has done well and wants to continue, he can have another five years and no more. And the tape is there if you if you want to see it,” Soro submitted.
Baba Mohammed, according to him, was the right person to lead the organization and we have already started to see this, because he came up with strategic plan for the organisation.
“He felt there was the need to come up with an administrative structure. And we have been able to get headquarters that is close to the Police Headquarters, directly opposite it, to show you how transparent and open the organisation could be.
“And by the special grace of God, with coming in of NATFORCE, we would of course, see the end of all the menace hiccups in this country.
“And I want to inform you that with the strategic plans we put in place, by Baba Mohammed, the Director-General of this organization, we would be able to right the wrongs that have been noticed in the system,” Soro declared.
