Natasha suspended for six months by Senate over allegation of sexual harassment against Akpabio

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has been suspended by the Senate for six months.

Her suspension followed the ongoing running battle between her and the Senate President Godswill Akapabio over sexual harassment allegation she levelled against him.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, had during sitting recommended her suspension after they claimed to have found her guilty of misconduct and failure to appear before the committee to defend her allegation.

While presenting the committee’s report to the House, the Chairman of the committee, Senator Neda Imasuen said the committee found Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty for not complying with the committee’s proceedings.

Apart from her suspension, the Senate also ordered that her salary and security details be withdrawn during the suspension period while her office should remain under lock and a formal apology should be written by her to the Senate.

Though Senator Abba Moro pleaded for leniency and a reduction in the recommended six months suspension to three months, the Senate still went ahead with the six months suspension.
