Nasarawa conjoined twins successfully separated in FMC Keffi

Two sisters, who were joined in the chest and abdomen, have been successfully separated in a major surgery member team in Federal Medical Center, Keffi.

Hassaina and Hassana are believed to be getting on well after the surgery.

Their parents are from Mararaba Udege of Nasarawa Local Government Area the state.

The surgery to separate the twins happened on July 9, 2020, in Keffi, but details have only just been released by family source, because they wanted to ensure there were no post surgery complications.

It took around 5-6 hours for the team working from two operating theaters at the hospital to separate the twins, according to the source.

“We are just happy and proud that the team that worked on this surgery were all Nigerians. It was done in Nigeria and the parents didn’t have to go outside the country,” Family source said

Separating conjoined twins is a complicated and dangerous procedure, and not all twins — because of shared organs or other complications — can be separated.

The family source recommend Dr Ademu Yahaya, the Chief Medical Director FMC, Keffi for National Honor and recognition.
