Naira Marley’s Abuja concert: Group demands apology for Airliner’s mix-up on Works Minister, Fashola

A human rights organisation, the Nigeria Peace Advocacy Group (NPAG), has demanded unreserved apology from the management of the Executive Jets Services Limited, over the mix-up in their manifest that embarrassed the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN.

A statement signed by the group’s leader, Omolola Olukayode, described the mix-up as ‘careless, unprofessional and embarrassing’, while regretting that the unfortunate development had the tendency to drag the good name of the minister in the mud.

Recall that the Airliner, in a release from its Chairman/CEO, Dr. Sam Iwuajoku, linked the minister with the alleged unauthorised flight to Abuja which has set tongues wagging across the nation that the stay at home measures put down by the authorities are being flouted by an official of the authority.

It was in reaction to that, that the group frowned at the mixed-up and demanded outright retraction and apology from the airliner to put the record straight, saying however that, “we members of the NPAG have known that, linking the unauthorised flight with Fashola could not be true.”

According to Olukayode, the minister has been known to be a man of high integrity and somebody with an unblemished character, who, as a lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria for that matter, know the importance of obeying the law.

The group’s statement read, “Our investigation has revealed that, the former Governor of Lagos State and current Minister of Works and Housing revealed that he has not travel out of Abuja, since March 22, 2020, when he returned to Abuja after an inspection tour of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway construction work and a visit to Lagos, before the lockdown.

“This we learnt was in compliance with stay at home order to curtail the spread of Coronavirus code-named COVID-19,” the release said.

Olukayode, therefore, urged the management of the Airliner to always be efficient in the way it treats the passengers manifest to avoid future slips that can put their esteemed customers in ridiculous situations.
