One Bolarinwa Abiodun, who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for parading himself as a General in the Nigerian Army , was on Monday remanded at Ikoyi Prison by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

In January, 2022 , the anti-graft agency had arraigned Bolarinwa who had called himself a military general to access a N270 million loan from Kodef Clearing Resources, a transportation company in Nigeria.

He allegedly told the company that he was shortlisted by President Muhammdu Buhari to be appointed as Chief of Army Staff and requested for a loan of N266, 500,000 from the company to enable him process the appointment.

He was also alleged to have forged a letter of appointment bearing the signature of the president.

He was brought before the court oh a 13-count charge bordering on falsely representing himself as a General in the Nigerian Army though he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Upon his not guilty plea, the EFCC Counsel, Abbas Muhammed, urged the court to remand him but his counsel, Kayode Lawal opposed the EFCC’ request and urged the court to grant him bail.

Lawal argued that the defendant has been in the commission’s detention since 12th January, 2022 and came to the court from there.

Justice Taiwo, however, adjourned the matter till April 14, 2022 for further hearing.
