A 26-year-old Kano woman, Hauwa’u Habibu, has been arrested for allegedly killing her two children ages 6 and 3, and injuring her niece.
Habibu reportedly perpetrated the cruel act at her family house at Diso Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of the state, over the weekend.
Reports have it that the suspect may have been high on drugs, as she allegedly locked herself and the children in a room, and butchered the three children with a machete and an aluminum pestle.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna, the suspect fled after committing the crime.
Report has it that the call for help from the suspect’s niece, Aisha Sadiq, 10, attracted neighbour, who came for their help.

Haruna in a statement on Sunday, said neighbours alerted police detective, who rushed to the scene where the deceased persons were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano. A medical doctor reportedly confirmed the two children dead.
He said the suspect’s niece was transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, treated and discharged.
The statement said: “The leadership of CP Habu Sani, wishes to inform the general public that on the October 3, at about 11:30 a.m. we received information that the suspect attacked and killed her two biological children, a male and a female.
“The children were named Irfan Ibrahim, 6, and Zuhura Ibrahim, 3, and wounded her niece, one Aisha Sadiq, a 10-year- old girl, and fled to an unknown destination.
“A team of detectives immediately rushed to the scene and took the victims to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where a medical doctor confirmed the two children dead, whereas the said Aisha Sadiq was transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, treated and discharged.
“The Command’s Commissioner of Police, raised and directed a team of Operation Puff Adder, led by Nasiru Gusau, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Gwale Division, to arrest the suspect within 24 hours. The suspect was arrested on the same date at about 10:50 p.m.
The Command’s spokesperson said the CP had ordered the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
