Commendations have continued to trail the decision of the people’s Governor of Ebonyi State, and Chairman, South East Governors Forum, Engr. Dave Umahi, to take another 3,000 young people off the labor market and absorb them into the state workforce in his fight against poverty and unemployment in the state, with the latest coming from the erstwhile Technical Assistant to the Governor on Media, Lady Chidinma Ada Eze.
In a statement made available to media houses in Abakeliki, the Ebonyi State Capital, Lady Monica said with the decision coming at a time when some Governors are struggling to clear backlog of salaries owed civil servants and others retrenching workers to gain stability, Governor Umahi has once more cleared every iota of doubt about his status as a rare breed in leadership and politics of Nigeria.

“His decision to engage extra five thousand civil servants after engaging thousands of Ebonyians in various transforming projects initiated by his administration and in process in the State is phenomenal, unprecedented and worth the commendation of people of goodwill. This is unbelievable particularly at this period most States of the Federation are finding it extremely difficult to retain and sustain her workforce.
“I am proud of not only knowing this man of extra wisdom but happy that I am part of this great vision and movement to reposition Ebonyi State as the greatest state in Nigeria” Monica added.
According to the governor’s former aide who is also President and Founder of DUNAETA, a non-Governmental, non-Profit Organisation, spearheading enhancement of democracy and Good Governance and advocating youth engagement in leadership, the decision of Governor Umahi is aimed at increasing the workforce and significantly improving the productivity of the states civil service in line with his administration’s commitment to rewriting the story of Ebonyi in all spheres of the economy.
While 3,000 civil servants will be added to the State civil service, Monica revealed that another 2,000 will be employed at the Local Government level making a total of 5,000 young people to be lifted from the labor market at the same time in Ebonyi State.
The above notwithstanding, Lady Monica further highlighted that the Governor is set to empower extra 3,000 youths drawn across the local government areas of the state in consonance with his administration’s drive and commitment to reducing poverty, exploring the potential of youths and improving the livelihoods of families.
On whether these laudable and expensive programs will affect in any way ongoing key projects in the state, such as the the Airport, Olympic Seized Stadium, the International Mall designed after the World attractive Dubai Mall that will soon be commissioned etc considering the paucity of funds complained by Nigerian Governors, the DUNAETA President said although funding is one major concern in project delivery, the economic blueprint of Gov. Umahi is masterfully crafted to accommodate very thoughtful and people-oriented initiatives and is manned by a competent, committed and vastly experienced economic team, who shares in his dream of a new Ebonyi.
“I doff my hat for such an uncommon leader of our time” says Monica.
“My prayer is that God will open the eyes of Nigerians to see and influence this great Leader to take a great lap and secure this country from its present sorry state” She added.
