Mike Jaga becomes Rotary President Lekki

The above aptly captures the life of the Hope President, Rotarian, Mike Jaga who was officially installed as the 17th president of Rotary Club of Lekki Phase, District 9110 on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

The ceremony was held at the BWC Hotels, in Victoria Island. Expectedly, the gig was a convergence of the crème de la crème of the society. It was well attended and it had all the paraphernalia of glamour and glitz. Those who matter in Lagos and beyond queued up to felicitate with the “Rotary star boy”, Rotarian Jaga.

The District Governor 2023-24, for Rotary International District 9110, Rotarian Edith Ifeyinwa Ejezie led other dignitaries including past district governors, assistant governors, presidents, district governors, rotary enthusiasts, and philanthropists to the occasion.

The ceremony was chaired by Sir Gregory Enahoro.

Rotary President Jaga who looked every inch a royalty was decked in the Yoruba traditional attire in company of his wife. As it was customary, the outgone President, Yetunde Dimowo handed over the baton to the newly installed president amidst cheers and pageantry.

In his speech, President Mike Jaga pledged to continue with the club’s tradition of service.  His primary focus and star project is to take destitute off the streets as well as empowering the indigent people.

The climax of the investiture ceremony was the fund raising session for humanitarian projects for the 2023/24 year. It was an avenue for the induction of board of directors while awards were also given to deserving members of the club.

 And for everyone who shared Rotarian Jaga’s vision about giving to the less privileged, and empowering the disabled ones in the society with skill acquisition, the fund raising session for humanitarian projects was not only a call to service but a moment of solidarity.

In his acceptance speech, Rotarian Jaga noted that the club’s message for the day was two folds.  Firstly, the topical issue of mental health of which the Rotary International President, Rotarian Gordon Mcinally is passionate about because he lost one of his siblings to depression. He stated that mental health issues are triggered by stressful situations: financial stress, social disorder, family disorganization, medical conditions, etc.

 Aside from mental health issue, the star project for the year, according to the Hope president, Rotarian Mike Jaga, will bring double joy to the beneficiaries with provision of windows for taking them out of poverty through skills acquisition and create hope that the world cares about people with disabilities.

It was fun-filled day. Guests were treated to very beautiful music and traditional dance from across the three major tribes in Nigeria. Organisers of the ceremony didn’t spare any cost to entertain esteemed guests. There was enough to eat with choice wine to go with it.
