The Methodist Church Nigeria on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to do more in the area of securing the lives and property of the citizens.
This call was made in a communiqué issued at the end of the 3rd Annual Synod of the Diocese of Ikeja Methodist Church, signed by Rt Rev Stephen Adegbite, Bishop of the Metropolitan Diocese of Ikeja.
According to him, “If the present situation is not addressed, the sense of unity and togetherness of the Nigerian people from a psychological standpoint could be under threat.
“The state of the nation, particularly the level of insecurity, is a big concern. We hope that in President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election, he will do a lot to better than he has done in the past.

“He should ensure that appointments into the security sector and into other strategic offices must reflect the spirit of the country’s Federal character.
The Synod commended the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari on power generation and distribution.
The Synod also called on the Federal Government to arrest the significant and sharp drop being presently witnessed across the country in the power sector.
“The adverse effect of this is a downturn in the productivity level of businesses, especially those within the micro-economic strata.
Synod urged the federal government to improve the educational, rail and road, as well as the health care sector so that dividends of democracy would be felt and enjoyed by citizens.
“The masses are suffering and something urgent and drastic needs be done,’’ the communiqué said.
Synod also commended President Buhari and all stakeholders, on the recent minimum wage bill that was signed into law.
“State governments should ensure that the new minimum wage of N30,000 (Thirty Thousand Naira) is paid without hitch as workers in Nigeria deserve some reasonable level of remuneration for their labour.
“All tiers of Government should ensure prompt payment of pensions and allowances and other outstanding benefits without any delay.
Synod frowns at the escalating cases of killings of innocent citizens, urging the federal government to rise up and fight this sad development decisively as this should not be allowed to continue.
Synod said that Methodist Church Nigeria would give its support to the anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
“The Federal Government should ensure that the anti-corruption fight is holistic and genuine; one that has no ‘sacred cows’ no matter which party they belong.

Synod who congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, on his re-election, urging all other winners to remain magnanimous in victory and those that lost to remain courageous and undaunted.
Synod congratulates Mr. Akinwunmi Oladapo Ambode on the successful completion of his 4-year term in office.
“It notes the giant strides recorded under him in the state, especially in the area of infrastructure and the tremendous peace and tranquillity that reigned in the state.
Synod congratulates Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on his election as the incoming governor of Lagos State and his deputy governor–elect, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
“It assures them of sustained and continuous prayers and wishes them a successful time in office.
Synod urged Nigerians to live a life of full obedience as this is essential in overcoming social vices, perversion and corruption currently pervading homes and the society in general.(NAN)
