Mayor of Yenagoa blazes the trail in grassroots development

Since he took over the mantle of leadership of Yenagoa Local Government Area, YELGA,)  on the 14th of August  2019, as the Mayor of the City Council, Hon. Uroupaye Nimizuo, has continued to blaze the trail in the area of development by taking the council area to the next level.

Within his two years in office, Ninizuo has ensured that his campaign  promises to the people of YELAGA, which is the seat of power of Bayelsa State, are fulfilled accordingly.

Besides taking development to the grassroots as promised in his election campaigns,  and as the Chief Security Officer of the Council area, the mayor has  mobilised all security apparatus to ensure the safety of inhabitants in the City Council

“In the area of security, I don’t joke with it. I have mobilised all security agencies within the council area and that is why since I came on board, violent incidents have been checked to some extent, “ the mayor noted.

He applauded the recent announcement by the state government that all local government areas should set up vigilante groups: “We are ready to set up vigilance groups if given the go ahead.”

To ensure he carried the grassroots people along,  he released funds  for councillors to carry out their ward projects, a gesture that has been applauded by a cross section of the councillors, who described him as a man of the people, as he always responded positively to the yearnings of people at the grassroots.

To encourage women in business,  Nimizuo also recently empowered women to start Small Businesses in Yenagoa and its environs, school fees for  students in tertiary institutions of the council’s extraction were also paid.

Other areas the mayor has blazed the trail and made impact on the people included setting up panels to conduct peaceful elections in youth organisations, Community Development Committees(CDC ) offices and chieftaincy election at some  community  levels; construction of a sport pavilion at Agudama Ekpetiama; construction of fence at Amarata Health Centre;  sponsoring of Inter- secondary school football tournament (Mayor’s Cup); renovation of Bumoundi water-tank; recommending followers for appointments; sponsoring free Health care services; distribution of flood relief materials to affected victims, etc., construction of concrete walk ways in Agudama Ekpetiama community and Tuburu-Biseni  Community Health Centre.

Recently , following the outbreak of fire incident in one of the council buildings, the mayor immediately embarked on the construction of a new office complex to accommodate the affected staff.

The mayor’s  effort was commended  by staff of the council area, describing his action as proactive .

Hon. Nimizuo spoke while on an inspection tour of the multimillion naira office block project, which he described as a necessity th will end  staff congestion in offices .

His words : “The recent fire outbreak that engulfed a section of the council’s building contributed to the issue of shortage in office space.

“The administrative workers, the career civil servants are always  jam-packed in one office . For instance, HODs are jam-packed in one office, which disturbed their administrative work.

“So, when we finish this work they will be able to do efficient job for us”, the Major who charged the workers to always protect government  properties.”
