For allegedly setting five stepchildren ablaze and causing the death of one because their mother denied him sex, a 54-year-old man is now cooling his heels behind bars in Ondo State.
The incident happened in Fagun crescent area of Ondo City, and the suspect is in the custody of the Police Command in Ondo State.
Eyewitness account had it that the suspect claimed that his wife, who is mother of the victims, had offended him.
The alleged offence, it was learnt, was that the suspect’s wife denied him sex.
The suspect vent his frustration by spraying petrol on the room while the children were asleep and then setting the building alight.
One of the children lost his life in the ensuing inferno.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident in Akure.
Odunlami, who explained that the incident occurred last Saturday, said that the suspect was being investigated, while the victims were currently receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
“This is a case of alleged arson and murder, and we need to investigate it to know the cause and how it happened.
“Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to our Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for proper investigation,” Odunlami said.
