A 28-year-old applicant, Agboola Adebayo of no fixed address faces the risk of life in jail for defiling a 9-month-old baby in Lagos.
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday ordered that the suspect be remanded in a correctional centre, following his arraignment by the Lagos State government.
Adebayo pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of defilement and causing grievous harm to the baby.
The offence contravene the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015) and is punishable by life imprisonment.
Justice Rahman Oshodi at the correctional facility and adjourned the case till March 25 for a hearing.
Ms Bukola Okeowo, the state counsel, had earlier told the court that Adebayo committed the offence on March 23, 2023, in the White Sand Area of Ijora, Badiya, Lagos.
She averred submitted that the suspect defiled the baby by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her, causing the minor and thereby causing grievous harm to the child by inflicting serious injuries on her genitals.
