Chikwado Eze, a businessman based in Onitsha and an indigene of Ugbaike community has died after he was buried alive in a grave for one hour in a bid to fortify him spiritually.
The incident happened at Inyi, a community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Chikwado was due to travel abroad on a business trip after securing a visa but felt he needed a spiritual fortification to help him secure more fortunes in his business abroad.
He reportedly consulted a native doctor introduced to him by his father, Uwakwe, who told him he needed to be buried alive for an hour in order to make him spiritually strong and bring him more fortunes when he reaches abroad.
However on the fateful day, after performing several rituals in preparation for his ‘burial’, the native doctor reportedly instructed the deceased ‘s father and other guests to excuse them after which he dug a grave and buried the deceased alive for one hour and thirty minutes.
After he was exhumed, the deceased was reportedly covered with sweat and was weak prompting the native doctor to begin reciting incantations to revive him.
His efforts yielded no positive results as the deceased was rushed to the hospital but confirmed dead on arrival.
The police have arrested the native doctor and the father with the community members testifying that the father had earlier been ostracized by the Ugbaike community for his alleged involvement in dangerous charms.
