The Makurdi zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has, within the past one and a half years, recovered a total sum of N84 million and secured 20 convictions for various offenses bordering on corruption and other related issues.
Acting Head of Operations in the office, Mr. Mohammed Umar Alkali, told newsmen, on Thursday, that 407 petitions and 21 cases were currently in various courts for trial.
He also said within the period under review, cases of money doubling or ponzi scheme and cybercrimes popularly called ‘yahoo yahoo’ increased in the country and noted that some parents of culpable youths not only feign ignorance, but abet the crimes.

According to him, most students of tertiary institutions, including graduates, corps members and even secondary school students, were involved in the nefarious activities.
While commending the media for their support, Alkali urged the practitioners to continue to help in the task of kicking corruption out of Nigeria.
He said the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area and four other highly placed persons were being tried for various allegations and promised to give details to journalists at a later date.
