Lawyers seek police intervention over alleged threat to life of transport unionist in Ekiti
A firm of Solicitors and Advocates, Kowe and Kowe, acting on behalf of their client, a member of the Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ekiti State chapter, Comrade Adebayo Aderiye, has in a letter to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 17 Command, Zonal Headquarters, Akure, Ondo State, urged him to urgently intervene in a petition brought by their client, Comrade Adebayo Aderiye over what they described as his persistent and consistent harassment, intimidation and threat to life by the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ekiti State on Transport, Comrade Rotimi Joseph.
The lawyers anchored their letter on the content of the petition submitted by their client (Comrade Adebayo Aderiye),adducing the following facts:
That both Comrade Adebayo Aderiye and Comrade Rotimi Joseph are transport unionists with membership of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Ekiti State chapter.
According to their client, himself and Comrade Rotimi Joseph have been privileged to hold positions of responsibilities in the said union in the past. But their client said he had to disagree with Comrade Rotimi Joseph in 2019 on issues bordering on leadership and management of RTEAN, Ekiti State chapter. According to him, this generated serious carnage among members of the union including serious bodily harm to him, (Comrade Adebayo Aderiye).

However, Comrade Rotimi Joseph recently renewed his hostility against him especially since the beginning of the new year(2022), when he(Comrade Rotimi Joseph) boasted openly in the garage that he will liquidate him(Comrade Adebayo Aderiye) out of circulation in 2022, including making life difficult for him.
Comrade Adebayo Aderiye also deposed that since the declaration of war on him by Comrade Rotimi Joseph, he has been subjected to series of persistent and consistent harassment orchestrated by Comrade Rotimi Joseph, citing February 4, 2022 around 8.30 pm, he (client) was driving along Ajilosun to Oke Oniyo side of Ado-Ekiti, he noticed that one Passat Saloon car with tinted glass was pursuing him. A similar incidence, Comrade Adebayo Aderiye alleged, was planned against him by Comrade Rotimi Joseph in 2019, and the matter got to Force Headquarters, Abuja, when Ekiti State Police Command did not intervene.
Comrade Adebayo Aderiye said heq managed to maneuver his way, thereafter he had the opportunity to have a glimpse of the Passat car which had no registration number at the back, while the front plate was covered with black nylon.
Comrade Adebayo Aderiye further posited that while hiding, the boys in the Passat car parked and alighted to monitor his whereabouts. It was at this point he got to know that they (the boys) came from Comrade Rotimi Joseph.

According to Comrade Adebayo Aderiye, he is no longer feeling safe within the State, while he lives in fear or apprehension of life being snuffed out of him.
The petition of Comrade Adebayo Aderiye, moreso, stated as transport unionist, he has his own support base which he can mobilize as a counter force, but as a law abiding citizen, doing so may lead to breakdown of law and order, hence, the reason for the step he has taken.
Comrade Adebayo Aderiye in the petition equally remarked that recently, Comrade Rotimi Joseph boasted that since he is in government, he has access to the Commissioner of Police, and that nothing will happen if he attacks him(Comrade Adebayo Aderiye).
The lawyers to Comrade Adebayo Aderiye, said in the petition by their client, Comrade Rotimi Joseph has become lawless and continues to boast that since he is in government, nothing will come out of any petitions written against him to Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, and he will always use the link of his principal, the Ekiti State governor.
