Lawyer accuses VP Osinbajo’s aide of harassment over land issue

A legal practitioner and Chief Executive Officer, Adamakin Investment Limited, Mr. Afolabi Akindele, has accused an aide to  Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Bashir Fakorede, of harassing him using one of his security aides over a land issue.

The incident allegedly occurred at the premises of the Federal Inland Revenue Service in Marina, Lagos on Friday, March 11.

According to the business man,  who is also the Attorney of Efunloye-Tinubu,  he was at the FIRS office based on an invitation over a land matter. Shortly after the meeting, Akindele stated he was stepping out when he came across a former House of Assembly member in Lagos State, Jide Akinloye and a Vice President aide, Bashir Fakorede who has been his rival over the land tussle.

Akindele alleged Akinloye and Fakorede, on sighting him, were  furious and alleged they ordered their mobile policemen, who are headed by a Commissioner of Police, to descend on him.

It would be recalled that a similar situation that had occurred which made the Nigeria Police to set up an investigative panel to unravel the mystery surrounding alleged intimidation and harassment of its officer by Vice President Aide over land grabbing crisis in lekki area of Lagos State.

The Vice President Aide, Bashir Fakorede, was alleged to have harassed a Police Officer, Nasir Ahmed assigned to maintain law and order on a controversial land in Lekki by slapping the officer.

The Police had deployed its men to the site to execute a Supreme court judgment over the controversial land.

Fakorede who was not pleased with the development assaulted the team leader of the Police while bluffing that he was above the law.

The traditional ruler of the area, Oba Babatunde Akintoye, of Ojomu land, however, denied being part of the incident or even aware of it, noting that Fakorede acted alone.

It was alleged that Fakorede with some armed policemen and thugs had forcefully taken over a large expanse of land estimated to be around 20 hectare.

Adamakin Investment Limited and the late Madam Efunroye Tinubu family had secured a Supreme Court Judgment in a suit number SC/48/92 which declared them as the lawful owner of the disputed land, and later  petitioned the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Abuja over the incident.

The petition dated September 2, 2021, was signed by their lawyer, Al-Jamic Chambers, titled: Complaint of Conspiracy, Land Grabbing, Threat to Life, Impersonation and Use of Firearms and Conduct likely to Cause the Breach of Public Peace Against Bashiru Fakorede, Vice President’s aide and others; Appeal for the Protection of Lives and Properties of Our Clients.

Specifically, the petition stated that on August 27, 2021, “The aforementioned persons hired thugs, adorned in mobile police uniform, invaded our client’s properties and maliciously damaged our client’s properties worth millions of Naira.

“Our client further informed us that throughout the endless destruction of our client’s properties, the said Bashiru Fakorede has boasted and presented himself as the APC Youth Leader and aide to Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo.

“We, therefore, write to your office to conduct an in-depth investigation to restore law and order over the disputed land.”
