A member of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Sen. Frank Ibezim, has charged Nigerian youths to be positive in action.

He gave the charge during the award ceremony of 30CEOsUnder30 held in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Sen. Ibezim, who represents Imo North in the Red Chamber, presented an award for high performance in the Education Category to Renèe and Zara Okocha for their immense contribution to promoting education in the country.

The Okocha sisters have authored about 45 books and are key drivers of the Classroom Library Project, which Sen. Ibezim is promoting nationwide.

Presenting the award to them, Ibezim expressed delight in the progress of the duo and commended them for committing “immense amounts in resources to change the narrative in literacy and education across the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The elated senator noted that a young constituent of Imo North Senatorial Zone, Nnaemeka Clinton, from Ehime Mbano, was similarly feted with an award for exemplary performance in the field of digital marketing, saying the awardee has done well for himself and the zone.

Besides the award presentation, the senator also gave a speech, exhorting  other youths to remain positive in their actions and  expressed his admiration for their altruism as fellow nation-builders.

Ibezim also lauded organisers of the event for their tremendous efforts and hoped that the youths in Imo North and all over the country would be inspired by it.

It will be recalled that Zara and Renèe have been very active in championing the campaign for the revival of reading culture among Nigerian schoolchildren through the Classroom Library Project.

Their collaboration with Senator Ibezim has put the campaign on the front burner such that every lover of education now sees the need to encourage it.

Sen. Ibezim, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries, had in the past visited the Senate President, Sen. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan; the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Abdullahi Yahaya, the Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, as well as the Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and introduced his pet Classroom Library Project to them.

They all spoke glowingly of the project and pledged their support, promising to mobilise other lawmakers to key into it.

Individuals and corporate bodies could set up the libraries in any school of their choice and it shall be named after them.

Zara and Renèe Okocha’s role in this project has been very fundamental and contributed in no small measure to their recognition and award at the just concluded 30CEOsUnder30 award ceremony.
