The Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) on Wednesday hailed an order of the National Industrial Court (NIC) demanding maintenance of peace by the management of the institution and its striking workers’ unions.
The Public Relations Officer of LASPOTECH, Mr. Olanrewaju Kuye, made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in reaction to the order made on Monday.
According to him, academic activities can now proceed smoothly in the polytechnic.
“The school has been on strike since January; the unions took the school to court and were still disturbing its activities while the case was still in court.
“They did not wait for the court to make any pronouncement but went ahead to frustrate the staff that were working.
“We are very happy about this ruling; now, academic activities can go on as planned, we can continue our work,” Kuye said.

NAN reports that NIC on Monday directed LASPOTECH’s Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions to maintain peace in the school.
Justice E.A. Oji ordered the union not to engage in actions that would obstruct the official activities of the school, pending hearing and determination of a suit they filed.
Oji adjourned the case to June 18 for hearing of other applications.
NAN reports that the unions had in January filed a suit at the NIC against the Lagos State Government, Attorney-General of Lagos State and LASPOTECH.
They are demanding continued implementation of the Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure (CONTISS) by the authorities of the polytechnic.
The payment was discontinued by the Lagos State Government. (NAN)
