Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state has directed the state’s Ministry for Works to urge all contractors of the state to return to site within 14 days or have their contracts terminated.
Governor Lalong gave the charge, on Wednesday, at the official flag-off of rehabilitation of roads and patching of potholes in the state.
“I hereby direct the ministry of works to ensure that all contractors working for Plateau state return to site within 14 days, or have their contract terminated, with a sanction awaiting any erring contractor.” the governor warned.
It has been observed that most of the road accidents within Jos and Bukuru were caused by deep potholes on the highways.
The governor warned that those erecting illegal bombs on the streets and highways and those dumping refuse on the streets to stop or face similar sanctions.
Governor Lalong said a taskforce had been constituted to arrested and penalise erring road users, particularly reckless drivers knocking down newly installed street lights in the state capital.

Speaking on his efforts toward ensuring motorable roads across the state, Governor Lalong revealed that his administration have rehabilitated 22 roads abandoned by his predecessor.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works in the state, Hon. Pam Botmang, in a welcome address at the flag off, told the gathering that the rehabilitations of the roads will be done across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Hon. Botmang informed the Platesu citizens that a total of 46 roads with an estimated length of 63 killometers shall be rehabilitated within one month of commencement of work, with the sum of N1.9 billion.
The works commissioner also said the rehabilitations works shall be 24 hours work, and special consideration shall be given to commercial areas within the state capital.
On the increasing erecting of illegal speed bombs within the Jos and Bukuru metropolis, Hon Botmang said erring communities shall be sanctioned soon.
