At a briefing to announce this year’s Lagos Circular Economy Hotspot 2023 (LCEH2023) held at Alausa, Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary, Office Of Environmental Services, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Omobolaji Gaji, said the two-day event, which will hold between July 26 and July 27 at Victoria Island, will emphasise the need to turn waste to wealth so as to create economic value for the state.

According to him, the event with the theme ‘ Towards Circular and Resourceful Economy: The Future Lagos,’ will offer an opportunity to every Nigerian to discuss how to create ‘ a society that we want.’

” We can only create economic value where our resources are judiciously utilised. Our waste should be sorted from the source. Everyone has a role to play to ensure we have a sustainable environment,” he said.

Gaji further said the Circular Economy Hotspot was an initiative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which serves as a platform to foster co-creation and highlight cities and societies transition towards circular economy.

According to him, the circular economy is pivotal to accelerate the drive towards the much-anticipated Greater Lagos.

The permanent secretary said that institutionalising the circular economy would enable Lagos State to promote policies and initiatives that prioritise renewable energy sources, adding it would ensure a cleaner Lagos, through waste reduction and recycling, support waste-to-energy projects, and incentivise businesses that integrate circular economy into its design for products that would be durable, repairable, and upgradeable.
