As a way of tackling perennial flooding and erosion usually experienced in the Ikoyi axis of Lagos State, the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has opened the rehabilitated 3,747 metres combined network of roads in the highbrow area in Eti-Osa Local Government.

The rehabilitated roads include the 1,499km Thompson Avenue, 928 metres long Milverton Road, and 760/580 metres long MacDonald/Lateef Jakande Road.

Sanwo-Olu said the reconstruction of the roads was in fulfilment of his campaign promises.

“Our administration is cognizant of the fact that strategic investment in infrastructure is the foundation for long-term growth, and the provision of adequate road infrastructure will generate a strong economic base for improved productivity and standard of living.

“This is a simple testimonial of our promise to ensure every point of our city feels the dividend of democracy. I want to advise every resident within this axis to refrain from constituting a nuisance on the roads. They should ensure the drainages are not blocked and keep the neighbourhood clean. There should not be trading on the walkway,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He also urged residents in the area to ensure regular payment of Land Use Charge and see themselves as partners in progress.

The governor further directed the contractor to immediately commence reconstruction of Femi Okunnu, MacPherson and Queens Drive roads.

While speaking, the Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyoye, said the roads “will reduce traffic congestion, reduce vehicular maintenance costs, decrease travel hours for commuters, enhance safety and security along the corridor, and provide aesthetically pleasing environment that will further increase property value.”

She further said the roads will “abate the perennial flooding and erosion usually experienced within the axis,” adding that it was part of the urban regeneration plan and effort of the Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
