Lagos street sweepers to get salary increase, says Sanwo-Ou

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Thursday, said street sweepers otherwise known as highway managers in the state would soon receive allowance and salary increments.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the announcement at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan,  at a rally organised by the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) to endorse presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the governor’s re-election bid.

The governor said his administration realised the risks involved in their job and gave assurance  that their welfares were his government priority because of the role they are playing in the state.

He commended the union for supporting the ambition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding sweeping the streets was an initiative of Tinubu while he was serving as governor of the state when he established the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

He charged the union’s members to take Tinubu’s campaign to the grassroots by  mobilising  every eligible voters to vote for APC, as well as collect their Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

The Managing Director, LAWMA, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, in his remark said that the rally was an opportunity for the waste managers to appreciate Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

The President, AWAMN, Dr David Oriyomi said that when Tinubu became the governor of Lagos State in 1999,  he inherited a state which was overcome with waste, and was labeled one of the dirtest states in the world, which resulted in the

nurturing and empowerment of the waste managers through the small-medium business model, and successive governments had built the solid foundation.
