The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa and other lawmakers say there is hope for Nigerian workers, with government’s commitment to their welfare.
Obasa and some other lawmakers shared the view in their Workers’ Day messages on Wednesday.
The speaker assured Nigerian workers of the commitment of government at all levels to improving standard of living and enhancing welfare of workers.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) at all levels of governance is committed to improving workers’ welfare.

“I want to assure our workers that government will not deviate from its responsibility of putting in place measures and programmes that will enhance the welfare of our workers and improve their standard of living.
“The President recently demonstrated this with the signing of the New Minimim Wage Bill into law and positive steps being taken by government to resolve all industrial disputes.
“I want to assure our workers that this government will continue to partner with them to move the country forward and ensure its growth and development,” Obasa said.
The speaker commended workers for giving support to the government.
“We will continue to seek for your support and cooperation at all times because the task of making Nigeria great is a collective responsibility of us all.
“Nigerian workers have been wonderful but we will seek for more support from you.
“On behalf of my colleagues at the Lagos State House of Assembly, I wish you all a happy May Day celebration,” he added.
Also speaking, Mr Victor Akande, member representing Ojo Constituency I at the Assembly told NAN that there was much hope for Nigerian workers with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Akande, the Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology , who commended the President for signing a new minimum wage of N30,000 for workers, said workers deserved to be made happy.

“Workers must celebrate that Nigeria is out of recession and the President was able to sign a new minimum wage.
“Things are becoming much better. There is a radiance at the end. There is great hope for workers.”
According to him, all that the country needs to turn its “adversities to prosperity” is to harness its human and material resources just like Dubai and Malaysia, among others, to make life abundant for citizens.
The lawmaker urged the workers never to abet corruption but expose it anywhere it was found.
He said corruption had caused workers so much pain.
Also speaking with NAN, Mr Mojeed Fatai, representing Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I at the Assembly, urged Nigerian workers to be patriotic.
He commended President Buhari for signing the N30,000 new minimum wage.
Fatai, Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, said: “I am very happy to hear some states giving commitment to pay the new minimum wage and I know it will cut across all states. Better days ahead.” (NAN)
