Lagos shuts facilities for flouting safety guidelines

The Lagos State Government has sealed off lounges, bars, spas and night clubs for flouting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s order on closure of social clubs, to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

The Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, leading the commission’s compliance and enforcement team to Lagos Island, Surulere, Abule-Egba and environs, said the state had zero tolerance for breach of safety guidelines and protocols.

“Let me reiterate that mass gathering of people at social clubs, spas and night clubs during this pandemic negates safety guidelines,” Mojola said.

He said preliminary investigation showed that some bars, spas, lounges and night clubs did not comply with the safety guidelines and closure order as directed by the governor.

The director-general said the commission has started issuing provisional safety compliance certificates to social clubs that have registered and have had their facilities verified.

He urged centres yet to comply with the registration to open initiative, to do so, saying facilities that have been registered, verified and issued certificates are not to open, until guidelines and pronouncements to open are made by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Mojola said registration and verification are free and user-friendly.

He appealed to everybody to support the government in complying with safety guidelines and protocols.
