Lagos residents ignore sit-at-home order, storms relief centre to receive food packages

Residents of Orile-Agege, Lagos State, on Saturday ignored the sit-at-home order of the state government to storm the relief package centre designated by the state government to receive free food packages announced by the state governor.
The residents who were sighted at Bade Abiona Street, off Amoo street, Agege, were in large numbers, not minding the fear of contacting the dreaded Coronavirus.
It is recalled that governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a state broadcast on Friday announced food relief packages for people of the state to cushion the effect of the sit-at-home order.
He said the programme would target 200,000 households in family of six, adding the package will include rice, beans, garri and vitamin c and will last each family for two weeks.
He said 50 primary school premises across the state had been designated for the programme.
Some health officials however refused to speak, saying they were busy attending to people, while the residents also refused to speak.
There were fears the incident could lead to increase in the spread of the virus.
However, the state government has deployed the Taskforce to the scene to disperse the crowd and remedy the situation.
