Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday opened the 5th Lagos Mass Transit Redline overpass bridge linking Onipanu and Mushin.

The bridge was the last of the five bridges expected to be constructed by the state government across the newly commissioned Lagos rail RedLine which runs from Oyingbo to Agbado in Ogun State.

The first four overpass bridges which had been commissioned were Agege Pen Cinema, Ikeja, Yaba and Oyingbo.

Sanwo-Olu, at the opening ceremony, said the new bridge will add economic value to Mushin and Onipanu as residents will experience a major turnaround and social development.

He noted that though houses were demolished to pave way for the construction of the bridge, all affected persons were duly compensated.

Sanwo-Olu stated that vehicular journey from Onipanu to Mushin which used to last 30 minutes can now be achieved in seven minutes thereby saving man hours and travel time.

He expressed gratitude to residents of the areas, as well as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, and the engineering company for getting the job done in good time.

The governor described the success of the construction of the bridge as a testament of promise made by him and delivered.

Managing Director of LAMATA, Engineer Abimbola Akinajo, thanked residents, Nigerian Railway Corporation, State House of Assembly as well as the state government for their support and cooperation during the construction of the overpass bridge.
