Lagos indigeneship: Bode George advised to discuss devt, progress

A pan-Lagos civil group, the Epe Youth Forum (EYF), has advised a former military Governor of Ondo State, Chief Olabode George, to focus on issues of development in Lagos State rather than concentrating on divisive remarks about indigeneship of those in power in the state.

Leader of EYF, Comrade Adewale Oladipupo, in a media chat in Lagos said, Chief Bode George had been going about the indigeneship issue as if there is anybody that does not know that Lagos State as never a No-Man’s-Land, admitting that, Lagos has its original indigenes just like other towns also have their original indigenes.

Just as he admitted that there are truly original indigenes of the state, Oladipupo also declared that, other residents cannot be denied their rights to citizenship, saying, “what should be uppermost in our mind is how to harness the potential of the citizenry to move the state forward.

According to him, it has never been in doubt that, those in government mentioned by Chief George as non-indigenes as well as those who served before them, are super performers who had been moving the state forward, stressing the need to give kudos to the Tinubus, Fasholas and Sanwo-Olu’s more their meritorious service to the state in particular and the nation at large.

“What we are trying to say here is that, rather than emphasis on who the indigenes of Lagos are and who are not, we expect the respected Chief to have focused too much on how the state is making progress or otherwise under the rulership of the various leaders that have been administering the affairs of the state in the recent times.”

Against this background, the youth leader admonished Chief George to always dwell much on topics of love, cordial relationship, togetherness and peaceful co-existence rather than parochial issues that can embarrass the people, stating that, “the Chief is expected to be found always in the league of people with nationalistic outlook where he rightly belongs.”

The EYF boss further asserted that, the efforts of former Governors Bola Tinubu  and Babatunde Fashola (SAN), who have written their names in gold in the service of their fatherland can never be forgotten, adding that, “it is also gratifying to note that the current Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has also embarked on the yeoman’s job for the sake of the state’s progress.”

The Forum therefore sounded a note of warning that, any person or group of people who may desire to jeopardise the progress of the Yoruba nation in particular and the country as a whole would be discouraged by all democratic means available, asserting that, “we are fully committed to the welfare and progress of Yoruba Nation in the context of the Nigeria project.”

Concluding, the EYF, therefore, urged the people of Lagos to continue to give Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team of competent lieutenants maximum support to continue in the good work they are doing for the good of all, reminding that, governance is not the sole duty of the government but a collective responsibility of all.
