Matters nearly went out of hand at Ansar-ud-Deen Primary School, Itire, a polling center in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos, when some suspected political thugs attacked a corps member.
The Nigerian Xpress gathered that there were speculations that while other local governments in the state were paying their ad hoc staff and corps members N20,000, the ones in Mushin LGA were being paid N5,000 only.
The corps member who is identified as Ikuomola Adeleke questioned why he and his colleagues were being shortchanged and threatened a walkout if they were not adequately remunerated.
The thugs suddenly descended on the protesting corps members and smashed a bottle on the head of Ikuomola.
“He was simply fighting for our rights, right here around 8.05am, some set of touts came from nowhere and hit him with a bottle, right in the presence of the supposed policemen and soldiers that were supposed to protect us,” explained another corper who did not want to be identified.
The hoodlums also threatened to stab the helpless corps member.
His colleagues protested the incident, saying, “we will not stand down and watch our own colleague treated this way.”
