The 50% discount on Lagos State-owned bus fares has been discontinued by the state government.
The State Government announced in a statement issued by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), on Tuesday, that starting April 1, 2023, all bus fares would be returned to a 100% rate.
Recall that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, had announced a 50% price cut on all state-owned transportation services at the beginning of last month.
He had added that the move was intended to ease the hardship residents were experiencing due to high gas prices and a lack of cash.

However, LAMATA announced, on Tuesday, that as of April 1 all fares for state-owned buses will return to 100%.
“With effect from Saturday, April 1, bus fare on all regulated buses — BRT, standard and FLM — shall revert to 100 per cent rate,” the statement read.
“Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, had on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, approved a 50% slash in bus fares following the cash crunch brought about by the recent currency swap.
“Following the Supreme Court and Federal Government’s pronouncements on the use of old notes alongside the new notes and return of stability to the system, the 50% rebate is hereby discontinued.”
