Lagos govt. rolls out low-key 60th Independence Day programmes

The Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, rolled out programmes for the country’s 60th Independent anniversary celebration.

The state also called for sober reflection in the face of COVID-19 pandemic as its set to celebrate low key.

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi, while announcing programmes for the celebration, said there would be Jumat Service, on Friday, September 25, at the Lagos State Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja, to be followed by Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service, on Sunday, September 27, at Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa.

The grand finale which is the Independence Day Parade, would hold at Agege Stadium, Agege, on October 1.

He added the state government decided to have a low key celebration as result of the Covid-19 pandemic, saying the celebration calls for sober reflection.

His words, “This year’s Independence Day celebration calls for celebration, although we cannot roll out drums due to the scourge of COVID-19 that is still with us, however, this Diamond Jubilee calls for sober reflection and thanksgiving to the almighty for keeping the Nigerian state together thus far, ” he said.

Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, said Lagos State, being the commercial centre of the nation, is set to lead other states in this year’s celebration.
