Lagos govt. ponders termination of non-performing jetty project contracts

The Lagos State Government has said that it will not hesitate to terminate the contract of any ongoing jetty construction project not done to specification or contract duration.

Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Arc. Hamed Kabiru Abdullahi, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the ongoing VIP Chalet Jetty project, at Badagry.

The Commissioner expressed displeasure at the shoddy job and slow pace of work by the contractor, warning that the State Government will revoke the contract and blacklist any non-performing contractor that tends to derail its plans of upgrading and providing safe, modern and easy water transportation for the citizens of the state.

Arc. Abdullahi further urged the contractors working for the Ministry to buckle up and deliver quality projects that will stand the test of time in line with the State’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda for prompt service delivery to the people.

While commending the contractors who have completed their projects on time, the Commissioner informed that completed jetties would soon be commissioned by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The inspection exercise was conducted at the newly constructed Liverpool, Ijegun-Egba and Badagry jetties as well as on-going projects at Ilado, Ilashe, Mile 2, Tarkwa Bay, Ebute Ero, Oke Era Nla and Ijede.

“The spread of these jetties across the length and breadth of Lagos State, when completed, will birth a landmark achievement of effective water transportation that will open up the riverine communities in Lagos State and impact positively on economic activities as well as the well-being of residents. We are doing everything to achieve this vision”, Abdullahi said.
