The Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday lauded the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, for promoting exclusive breastfeeding through its annual breastfeeding programme.
Sanwo-Olu made the commendation during a courtesy visit to her by the executives of the chapter.
She said the breastfeeding week organised annually by female journalists in the state had greatly promoted exclusive breastfeeding especially among working women.
“The breastfeeding week initiative is very good and I am sure WHO and the UN will be impressed with it.
“We are happy that you want to partner with us, you are one of us anyway, and this is important to our vision and expectation to promote our state and encourage young female journalists who are looking up to you,’’ she said.
Sanwo-Olu promised to liaise with her husband, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, toward assisting NAWOJ to acquire a permanent secretariat in the state.

“I am impressed that the executive of the association is looking toward leaving a legacy.
“This is because when some executives of groups finish their tenures, we do not know about them apart from seeing their names in journals or magazines.
“For you to think out of the box to want to embark on a project that you will be remembered with, is laudable,’’ she said.
Earlier, the state Chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs Adeola Ekine, congratulated the governor’s wife on her husband’s election.
Ekine expressed the readiness of female journalists in the state to work with the government to take the state to the next level.

She solicited the state government’s support for the association’s programme and its efforts to acquire a permanent secretariat and an official bus.
“Our annual breastfeeding week has been scheduled to hold from Aug. 21 to Aug. 25; we want you to be part of it as the keynote speaker.
“We will also officially announce and decorate you as the grand matron of the association.
“We also wish that her excellency would assist us to acquire a site for our secretariat because the NUJ secretariat where we operate from is under construction.
“Our hope is to use the secretariat for official operations and run a cretche in a bid to encourage exclusive breastfeeding and safety of our children,’’ she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other members of the association’s executive at the visit are Bunmi Yekini, Vice Chairperson; Lillian Ario, Secretary;Rukayat Adeyemi, Financial Secretary, and Olawunmi Shittu, Treasurer. (NAN)
