Lagos CP destroys prohibited drugs worth over N400m

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal, on Wednesday, destroyed illicit drugs valued at over N400 million.

The drugs which were mainly Tramadol, Codeine, marijuana and other dangerous drugs were destroyed at the Elepe dump site in Ikorodu.

CP Edgal stated that the drugs were recovered during the raid of criminal hideouts in the state between January 2018 till date.

In his speech during the destruction of the drugs,  Edgal said,  “ We are here today to witness the burning of syco-active and other hard substances valued over N400 million which has been recovered by the police in the cause of raids of criminal hide outs and through  other sources based on intelligence.

“And you will recall that when I took over office, as the commissioner of police of this state, I stated clearly that I would fight crime through different forms.

“Those of us that are student of political science, we know that there is a nexus between drugs and crime.

“That is why I have taken very serious measure against fighting hard drugs sales in the city.

“I have been receiving a lot of assistance as I went into partnerships with other security agencies who are well represented here today most importantly the state government and the synergy has paid off between January and now.

“We have been able to recover the following drugs: indian hemps, cocaine, codine, tramadol and other hard drugs. With the total value of over N400 million.

“Since most of our stores are filled with drugs we got order from the court to destroy publicly these substances and that is why we are here today to show the public as the drugs are been destroyed.”

Edgal also appreciated members of the public who have brought in useful information that led to the recoveries saying,  “It is in the interest of everybody that we keep our neighborhood safe from drug dealers, clear them off our street so that our children and adults will not be able to get hard drugs as easy as they buy candy and a bottle of Coca-Cola.

“The said substances are prohibited and harmful to health and they should not be sold easily in the community.”

He reassured Lagosians that the command will continue to partner with relevant agencies to take drugs off the streets.
