From George Aluo, Cairo
President General (Worldwide) of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, Dr Rauf Ladipo has embarked on the aggressive mobilization of Egyptian soccer fans ahead of Sunday’s crucial semi final game against Algeria.
Ladipo who is with his group here in Cairo said he can not afford to fold his arms and see the Algerians take over the massive Cairo International Stadium the way the Algerians did against Côte d’Ivoire.
Algerians are here in their numbers and made a lot of noise after beating Côte d’Ivoire in the quarter final Thursday night.
Ladipo told The Nigerian Xpress Sports here in Cairo that he has gone on a shopping spree for tickets which he would hand over to both his members and their Egyptian converts.
“I have started mobilizing more Egyptian fans for Eagles. We are not going to allow the support on Sunday to be more for Algeria. We gathered that the government of Algeria is flying in over two thousand fans for the game but we will match them support for support and I m confident our boys will also deliver on the pitch,” Ladipo said.
Reports coming out of Algeria also indicate that thousands of fans are trooping into Cairo from Algiers to cheer the Desert Foxes. Algerian fans have already taken over the Pyramid Hotels in Giza with no single room left in the hotel.
One of the fans who didn’t want to disclose his identity told The Nigerian Xpress Sports that they are aware Egyptian fans are behind the Eagles and they are set to make the support of the Egypt fans not to count.
