A Police Inspector, Joseph Ozonwanji, who was indicted in the murder of Ogene musician, Chikezie Okezie Nwamba in Enugu State has been dismissed from service
Inspector Ozonwanji was found guilty and received the maximum penalty of dismissal after an orderly room trial under the Police Act and Regulations 2020.
The Enugu State Police Command spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe stated that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13 (which covers the Anambra and Enugu State commands) had approved the recommendations to dismiss and prosecute Ozonwanji.
After his dismissal, the indicted ex-police officer
was arraigned on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Enugu East Magistrate Court on charges of murder.
The Chief Magistrate ordered the former officer to be remanded at the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre.
The case file has been transmitted to the Attorney General of Enugu State for further judicial action while the trial was adjourned to November 12, 2024.
