Kaduna is not resting on tackling insecurity- Aruwan

The commissioner for Security and Home Affairs for Kaduna State, Mr Samuel Aruwan has said that Governor Nasir El-Rufai has employed many strategies to tackle insecurity in the state.

He said that the many security operations and in Kafanchan, Ja’ama, Kaura and Zangon Kataf local government areas and revisiting the Kaduna master plan to open up satellite towns in the capital city, are part of the plans.
The commissioner who stated this in an exclusive interview said that concentration or cramping people in an area, is in itself a creation of insecurity.

He explained that the complaints arising from development plan of government was as a result of the neglect of implementing the 1917 Kaduna master plan spread over fifty years of continuous implementation. Aruwan said that the first fifty years of first phase of the master plan between 1917-1967 and second phase between 1967-2017 which was not adhered to, is responsible for complaints by handful of people over the development to “Make Kaduna Great Again”, one of the campaign promises of the governor. He further explained that when people get used to illegally, restructuring becomes difficult and that is what is playing out in Kaduna today.
The commissioner said that the development agency in Kaduna known as (KASUDA), Kaduna State Urban Development Agency wouldn’t have go to town to remove illegal structures without first notifying the owners of premises. He explained that though he is not the director general of KASUDA, but he is aware that corner shops are allocated to people on temporal basis adding that whenever public interest override corner shops, the obvious is bound to happen. He explained that the insinuation making the rounds that the government was out to seize property from the people was not correct. He further explained that people with title deeds of demolished property will be compensated.
The Kaduna State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs said haphazard development plan for  the capital city gave rise to criminal hideouts in parts of the city. 
Mr Aruwan said that the Governor El-Rufai led administration in the state is working towards a free Kaduna where whoever is qualified to be in position of leadership can be given the chance instead of the former system of godfather system that has distorted things over the years. He said that one of the responsibilities of responsible leadership is bold initiatives and that is what this government is bent on doing.

On the divide of north and south settlement in the capital city, the commissioner said that it started in the early 1980s, but added that the government is working towards addressing it that’s why Kaduna Peace Commission was set up.
Aruwan explained that the government is working towards good economic set up and good environment with secured environment for businesses to thrive. He explained that gone are the days of abnormalities and impunity saying that it is the reason why land speculators are being kept at bay.
On the Engraver School abduction, the commissioner said that it was a good thing that the children have regained their freedom, but promised that the government will stop at nothing but to bring perpetrators of act to book. He said that since it is a security issue, plans cannot be divulged but said government is not sleeping on the issue.
