JUST IN: Supreme Court dismisses David Lyon, APC applications for review of own judgment, fines Afe Babalola, Olanipekun
..Says application lacks merit
…It’s victory again for PDP/ Gov. Douye Diri
The Supreme Court, in Abuja, on Wednesday, dismissed a case brought before it seeking to set aside its earlier judgement where it sacked the Bayelsa State governor and deputy governor-elects, David Lyon and Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.
The Apex Court had, on February 13, 2020, sacked David Lyon and his deputy as duly elected governor and deputy governor of the state, respectively.
The Apex Court held that the application sought by the APC and David Lyon constituted a gross abuse of judicial process.

As a result, the Apex Court also voided the victory of David Lyon on the grounds that both men contested the election on a joint ticket.
In the lead judgment by Justice Amina Augie, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court ordered lawyers to David Lyon and the APC, Afe Babalola and Wole Olanipekun, both Senior Advocates of Nigeria, to pay the three Respondents (INEC, Governor Douye Diri and his deputy) the sum of N10 million each making it N60 million in person.
Speaking on the Wednesday’s verdict, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State commended the judgement, saying it was a victor for democracy.
