JUST IN: Kano gov. may name new Emir today

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State may name a new emir for Kano emirate, today (Monday) after deposing Muhammadu Sansui II.

It was gathered that the governor would announce the new emir before the close of work, on Monday.

Commissioner of Information in the state, Malam Muhammad Garba, also confirmed that the new emir would be announced today.

 “The new emir will emerge today, as the governor is ready to announce his name in the next one hour,” he said.

Another source close to the government confided in Daily Trust that the present District Head of Nassarawa, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayeo may likely be appointed the new emir of Kano state.

The Kano State Government declared that Governor Ganduje, approved the immediate dethronement of Sanusi because of “his (Emir) total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the State Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the Government without any lawful justification which amount to total insubordination”.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, Secretary to the State Government.

The Kano State Executive Council under the Chairmanship of His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR has unanimously approved the immediate removal/dethronement of the Emir of Kano Emirate, Muhammad Sanusi II.

The Emir of Kano is in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the State Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the Government without any lawful justification which amount to total insubordination.

It is on record and in so many instances Malam Muhammad Sanusi II has been found breaching part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate.

This removal is made after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders and in compliance with part 3 section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and other reasons stated above.

This removal was reached in order to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over thousand years.

His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR calls on the general public to remain calm, law abiding and to go about their normal businesses. While a new Emir of Kano Emirate will soon be appointed.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was nominated alongside the eldest son of the late monarch, Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero and the Wamban Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi.
