Judge withdraws from Rivers APC congress suit

The All Progressives Congress (APC) congress suit before a Rivers State High Court, in Port Harcourt, fixed for hearing, on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, suffered setback following the announcement by the presiding Judge, Justice Letam L. Nyordee to withdraw from the suit.

Aggrieve members of the APC, loyal to the former Sen. Magnus Abe, in Rivers State, had sustained the court injunction to stop the planned congresses of the party scheduled for September 17, 21 and 28 of this year in the state.

Ibrahim Umah and 22 other aggrieved members of the party on Friday September 13, 3019 obtained an interlocutory injunction in suit number PHC/3098/19, restraining the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi’s faction of the APC from conducting any congress in the state pending the determination of the suit.

Aminu Hungu-Hussein, who was appointed by the National Working Committee of the APC as Chairman of the delegation to supervise sales of nomination forms for the proposed party congresses in Rivers, had told journalists in Port Harcourt that all the incidents that led to the crisis in the state APC were now history.

He added that the NWC decided to conduct fresh congresses to have new leadership in the state following the crisis that denied the party participation in the 2019 general elections, adding that the National of Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomole had shown commitment to restore the values of the party in Rivers.

He said: “As far as the National Leadership of the APC is concerned, there is no longer any faction in Rivers state. We have only one APC.

“Whatever that happened previously is now a thing of the past and gone. We are committed to reconciling all organs of the party in Rivers State.

“Our National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole is sincere about stabilizing our great party in all the states of the federation and Rivers state is not exempted”, Hussein assured.

Meanwhile, at the resumed hearing of the congress matter on Tuesday, Justice Nyordee informed parties

in a suit that the case file would be sent back to the Chief Justice of the state to reassignment to a new Judge,  explaining that the matter was asigned to him during court vacation.

The Judge adjourned till Wednesday September 18, 2019 for resigning of the suit.
