There was Jubilation in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area when Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu opened three newly rehabilitated major roads in the council.
The roads were Demurin, Agidi and Church Street which link Ketu bus stop to Ketu-Alapere and Estate.
Before they were reconstructed, residents in the area suffered from perennial flooding which made the roads difficult to pass for motorists and commuters.
In his address at the opening ceremony, governor Sanwo-Olu said the new roads will impact positively on the health and socio-economic well-being of the people in the area.
The governor further said the roads will ease traffic for commuters heading to the Mile 12 International market and the Owode Onirin auto parts market on Ikorodu road thereby enhancing food supply to other parts of the state. He also said it will boost business activities within the area.
Sanwo-Olu warned the residents against vandalising the roads and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse on them.
“I urge you to take ownership by ensuring its proper use and safeguarding it against acts of vandalism, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and misuse. Let us work together to preserve this infrastructure for current and future generations,” he told the residents.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola commended the governor and his deputy, Obafemi Hazmat for delivering world -class infrastructure to Lagosians despite economic challenges.
He also urged the residents to take collective responsibility for their preservation.
“Infrastructure is a shared asset and together, we must safeguard it against misuse and vandalism,” he said.
The chairman, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Dele Oshinowo, appealed to the landlords in the area not to be in a rush to increase their house rents.
He promised to hold a meeting with the Community Development Associations with a view to arriving at a common decision on whether to increase house rents or not.
