It was a jubilation over the weekend at the Port Harcourt Army Barracks as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Jamil Sarham handed over renovated building to wives and families of soldiers deployed to the Division.
Major General Sarham had disclosed at the inauguration ceremony of the renovated building, that the project was a partnership with a philanthropist and Managing Director of Ejovi Dredging and Marine Services Limited, an indigenous company operating within the Division Area of Responsibility.
In his welcome remark at the event, the GOC stressed that the project will alleviate accommodation challenges faced by the soldiers and their families.
He said, “I once again welcome our guest and partner Chief Ogenegarem Ejovi, the Managing Director Ejovi Dredging and Marine Services Limited. I wish to on behalf of Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, officers, men and family members of 6 Division thank you for this laudable gesture as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility. No doubt, this project will go a long way in alleviating the challenges faced by troops and their families. For that we say a big thank you.”

Gen. Sarham urged other companies and Non-Governmental Organisations within the Division to emulate the good gesture by Ejovi.
In his remark, Chief Ejovie Ogenegarem, managing director, Ejovi Dredging and Marine Services Limited, said the project was the company’s way of supporting the military for its untiring effort in protecting the country. He thanked the GOC for availing him the opportunity to support the Army.
Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries of the building who appreciated the combined efforts of the philanthropist and GOC, said it would relieve their accommodation problem.
Mrs Fatima Auwalu, said “As you can all see we are very happy and we appreciate it. We thank our officers and the company that did this for us, may God bless them.
On her part, Mrs Fatima Jimmy Godwin said “I feel very grateful for this gesture because it has not been easy for us. We have suffered roof leakage, rats, cats entered our house as a result of the dilapidation of the building. We really appreciate it so much and thank the philanthropist and the GOC for cleaning the tears from our eyes.
Also, Mrs Ibuchim Andrew said, “I feel very happy for the renovation because we have suffered the challenge of rain damaging our belongings. But when we heard that they wanted to renovate the block, we became happy and within three weeks the house is set for us to move in.”
