The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the winners of its National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award, NATAP-M Award, for 2020.
The award, which was instituted to stimulate excellence in tertiary institutions, has five categories.
The first category, The 2020 Institution of First Choice in Nigeria, was won by the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State. It had a total prize money of N100 million out of which Unilorin pocketed N75 million. The remaining N25 million was shared by the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, Kaduna State and Bayero University, BUK, Kano, which emerged first and second runners up and got N15 million and N10 million, respectively.

Kaduna State Polytechnic won The Most National Institution in 2020 Admissions and carted home N75 million out of the total prize money of N100 million. Again, ABU came second and went home with a purse of N15 million while the second runner up, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, got N10 million.
The winner of The 2020 Most Improved Institution in Gender Balance Award went to Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State. It cornered N75 million out of the N100 million prize money while the first and second runners, FCT College of Education, Zuba, Abuja, and Abia State University, Uturu, Abia State, got N15 million and N10million, respectively.
The award for The Institution with the Highest Number of International Students in the 2020 Admissions also went to ABU. The award had a purse of N100 million. ABU was rewarded with N75 million. The first runner up, University of Maiduguri, Borno State took home N15 million but the second runner up, Nile University, Abuja, got N10 million.

The fifth category award was The Most Compliant Institution in Keeping to the Guidelines in 2020 Admissions. It was won by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, which got N75 million, which is a giant share of the N100 million prize money. University of Ibadan and University of Maiduguri emerged first and second runners up. While University of Ibadan went home with N15 million, University of Maiduguri got N10 million.
The NATAP-M Award is a yearly event, which not only encourages competition among the tertiary institutions but also comes with financial rewards for the winners.
